Gaming Test: Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus - Exynos 2400 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Exynos 2400
The recent release of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series has sparked curiosity among tech enthusiasts, particularly regarding the performance of the two different processors powering the flagship devices.

In the United States, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, while in other regions, including India, the phones feature Samsung's in-house Exynos 2400.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra (review) stands out, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 globally. Initial benchmarks suggested a gap between the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but a gaming test video by NL Tech indicates a surprisingly close competition.

Gaming Test Overview:

NL Tech conducted a thorough 43-minute gaming test video on YouTube, comparing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with the Exynos 2400-equipped Galaxy S24+.

The test encompassed popular titles like Fortnite, Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile, PUBG New State, Call of Duty: Mobile, War Thunder, and Mobile Legends. To ensure maximum capabilities, Samsung's Game Booster and "Alternate game performance management" were enabled on both handsets.

Gaming Performance Results:

In Genshin Impact and PUBG Mobile, both the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra exhibited comparable performance, maintaining a consistent 60fps (frames per second). PUBG New State showcased a stable frame rate of around 90fps on both phones. Mobile Legends saw both devices achieving a smooth 60fps. Notably, in Fortnite, both chipsets consistently maintained 90fps, occasionally dropping to 70fps.

The video emphasized the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S24 Ultra's supremacy in Call of Duty: Mobile, boasting a seamless 120fps. In contrast, the Exynos-powered Galaxy S24+ capped at 60fps. However, the Exynos 2400 made a comeback in War Thunder, surpassing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by reaching 100fps, thanks to its Xclipse 940 GPU, while the Snapdragon experienced a slight dip to 40fps.

Conclusion:

The gaming test results suggest a neck-and-neck competition between the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets in delivering smooth gaming performance. Despite early concerns raised by benchmark results, Samsung's in-house Exynos chipset demonstrated an impressive ability to stay on par with Qualcomm's offering. It's essential to note that these tests were conducted on pre-production hardware, and results might see further optimizations when Samsung releases final software updates.

Final Thoughts:

As consumers eagerly await the release of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, the gaming test video provides valuable insights into the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400 chipsets. While each processor showcased strengths in specific games, the overall performance appears closely matched.

This bodes well for users worldwide, reassuring them that, regardless of the processor variant, the gaming experience on the Galaxy S24 series remains robust and satisfying. Keep an eye out for future updates and optimizations from Samsung that could further enhance the gaming prowess of these flagship devices.
