Apple Considers OpenAI Tech for Upcoming iPhones: Report on Generative AI Features

Apple is reportedly in talks with OpenAI again to discuss incorporating the artificial intelligence (AI) company's generative AI technology into future iPhones. This news comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who suggests these discussions involve potential integration into iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system.

These talks mark a fresh start for collaboration between Apple and OpenAI, following minimal progress earlier this year. Apple remains undecided on partnerships, leaving the door open for collaborations with both OpenAI and Google, or even choosing another provider entirely. Reports also suggest ongoing discussions with Google regarding licensing their chatbot, Gemini.

The upcoming iPhone operating system, iOS 18, is expected to introduce new features powered by Apple's own large language model technology. Additionally, Apple seeks to include chatbot functionalities similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT or Anthropic's Claude.

According to Gurman, Apple prioritizes seamless integration of these AI features with a strong emphasis on user privacy, exceeding competitor offerings.
