Google Pixel 8a Leaks Reveal Almost Everything Except the Launch Date
Google's upcoming budget phone, the Pixel 8a, has been the
subject of numerous leaks in the lead up to its expected unveiling at
Google I/O 2024. The latest leak comes from tipster MysteryLupin, who
shared a complete spec sheet of the phone, revealing almost everything about
it, including the European price.
Display and Design:
The Pixel 8a is expected to sport a familiar 6.1-inch display, but with a
significant upgrade to a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and a peak
brightness of 2,000 nits for better outdoor visibility. Corning Gorilla Glass
3 will provide protection against scratches. The phone will measure 152.1 x
72.7 x 8.9 mm and weigh 188 grams.
Performance and Software:
Under the hood, the Pixel 8a will be powered by Google's latest Tensor G3
chip. While some rumors suggest the chip might be slightly underclocked
compared to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, it should still deliver plenty of
performance for everyday tasks. The phone will come with 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM
and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
On the software side, the Pixel 8a is expected to benefit from Google's long
history of software support. The phone is rumored to receive at least 7 years
of software updates, similar to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. This ensures users will
get the latest security patches and features for years to come.
Battery and Security:
The Pixel 8a is said to pack a 4,492mAh battery, which should offer a full
day's worth of power for most users. The phone will also support 27W wired
charging and Qi wireless charging for convenient power options. Security will
be handled by an in-display fingerprint scanner with the added convenience of
face unlock.
Camera:
The camera department appears to be unchanged from the Pixel 7a. The Pixel 8a
will likely sport a dual rear camera system with a primary 64MP sensor and a
13MP ultrawide sensor, both with optical image stabilization for sharper
photos and videos. The front-facing camera will be a 13MP unit for capturing
selfies and video calls.
Other Features:
The Pixel 8a is expected to have an IP67 water and dust resistance rating,
ensuring it can withstand splashes and dust. Connectivity options include a
USB 3.2 Type-C port, Wi-Fi 6E, and support for major LTE and 5G bands.
Price and Availability:
The leaked Pixel 8a banner hints at a €549 price tag for the European market,
which translates to roughly ₹47,000. There is also a rumor of a €150 trade-in
bonus for older smartphones. The phone is expected to come in a variety of
colors, including Bay, Lime Green, Obsidian, and Porcelain.
While Google has yet to officially announce the Pixel 8a, these leaks paint a
clear picture of what to expect from the upcoming budget phone. With its
powerful processor, long software support, and capable camera system, the
Pixel 8a looks to be a compelling option for those looking for a
feature-packed smartphone at a reasonable price.
